The Office of Cultural Development
The City of Pittsfield’s Office of Cultural Development was established to promote, support and initiate cultural activities in the City of Pittsfield to contribute to the health of the city’s economy and community. The Office of Cultural Development and its Director are responsible for managing the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, a city-owned downtown arts center that features a gallery/performance space featuring changing exhibitions, classes, meetings and performances; a ceramic studio; a dark room; and nine working artist studios. The Office staffs the City’s Artscape public art committee, which juries and funds yearly public art shows in downtown Pittsfield and leads community-based public arts projects; represents the City’s cultural sector regionally and on the Boards of Berkshire Creative Economy Council and the Berkshire Visitors Bureau, and serves as the first point of contact for artists of all stripes, cultural organizations, event organizers and creative businesses in Pittsfield. The City of Pittsfield, population 45,000, is the largest city in rural but culturally rich Berkshire County in western Massachusetts.
