Friday: Parade Aid!
Five
popular local performance groups have rallied
together to form a show to benefit Pittsfield’s 4th of July Parade. The
casts of Romance, Soul & Rock n 'Roll, The Oldies But Goodies, The
Wanna B's, Memory Lane and Broadway to the
Berkshires will perform for one night only. All proceeds benefit the

Friday: Meg Hutchinson @ Mission
Native
Berkshire songstress, Meg Hutchinson,
performs at Mission Bar and Tapas. Hutchinson has become known for her
unique alto vocals and resonating, razor-sharp lyrics, and her
sophisticated folk/pop songwriting.
“Songwriting is not something I chose, I’ve just somehow always known
that this is what I love to do. This is what I can’t help but do.”

Friday-Sunday: Living With It @ Barrington Stage
Living With It,
written & performed by Frank La Frazia, is an
autobiographical account of life as a teenager with a parent suffering
from bipolar disorder. It portrays a young man who is coming of age,
seeking independence and being dealt the responsibility of

Saturday: FREE Artmaking for Kids
Children &
their caregivers are invited
to join IS183 faculty artist Ben Evans in a FREE fun-filled morning
creating multimedia valentines (photo does not represent actual project
- that will be a surprise!) No registration is
necessary in order to participate. Children of all ages are invited and
must be accompanied by a caregiver.

This Saturday Collage Logic opens
at
Storefront Artist Project, featuring artists working in the
multifarious medium of collage, from heat-transfer paper, candy
wrappers, & textiles, to stencils, drawings, watercolors,
video & writing! And Wednesday night Storefront hosts a very
special Tricks of the Trade evening with artist-activist Reverend
Billy of the Church of Stop Shopping,
on Art & Social Change. He partners with citizens, grassroots
organizations, and creative visionaries to produce dynamic, humorous
public campaigns supporting participatory
democracy, ecological sustainability, & the preservation of vibrant
communities & local economies.

Saturday: Getting Foolish & Festive!
The
first annual (& already semi-legendary)
Berkshire Fools Festival, scheduled for April 1-5, officially kicks
things off on February 7, at Pittsfield Brew Works with the release of
the Festival schedule (so far) & a call
for performers, volunteers, & curious passersby. The Fools
Festival, a citywide arts festival spearheaded by Zeitgeist
Gallery with help from Pittsfield's Office of Cultural
Development, will feature an intriguing range of art exhibitions,
theatre, live music & activities for all ages, to create a truly
unique fringe festival experience.

Saturday & Thursday: New Orleans Jazz and Taiko Drumming!
Get
a little bit of both New Orleans and Japanese
music this week at the Colonial Theatre. Saturday night, the Hot 8
Brass Band comes to town with their signature horns. The Hot 8 Brass
Band has been central to New Orleans street music for over a
decade. Come out and help support New Orleans incredible cultural
heritage! On Thursday night, Nagata Shachu brings Taiko, the rooted
funk drumming traditions of Japan to Pittsfield. Nagata Shachu
combines thunderous, primal drumbeats with subtle, intricate rhythms,
producing a wide spectrum of sound using a vast array of Japanese
taikos, including the massive O-Daiko, gongs, bells, wooden
clappers, shakers and bamboo flutes.

Monday: Lots @ the Licht!
Monday
evening meet the recipients of the 2009
Pittsfield Cultural Council grants at a reception. Following the
reception, there will be an informational session about Assets for
Artists, an initiative aimed at
helping artists throughout Berkshire County to become home owners and/or receive small business training and assistance. PLUS, the Town Players will
hold auditions for Doubt: A Parable the same evening (auditions will also continue on Wednesday. ) Come on down!

Thursday: “Heads Up” Sculpture Class
On
Thursdays in February (12, 19, and 26) noted
artist Michel Paul Richard will instruct "Heads Up," a sculpture
workshop where participants will work with low fire clay to create half
size heads. Participants
will
have the opportunity to learn how to use their powers of observation
and to transfer them to the creation of a three-dimensional head, which
will then be air-dried & kiln fired.
